Core Insights
Building Emissions
Estimated emissions from heating, cooling, and powering residential and non-residential buildings, based on Google Maps data.
Transportation Emissions
Estimated emissions of all trips that start or end within city boundaries based on aggregated, anonymized Location History data.
Rooftop Solar Potential
Estimated solar energy production potential of buildings based on total sunshine exposure, weather patterns, and roof dimensions.
Tree Canopy
Estimated tree canopy coverage across city regions, based on aerial imagery and machine learning algorithms.
Labs Beta
Air Quality
Currently available in Hamburg, Dublin, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, London, and Bengaluru: hyperlocal, street-by-street air quality data from mapping street-level air pollution with mobile air sensors.
Case studies
Los Angeles, California
The City of Los Angeles is leveraging EIE's Tree canopy Tool to bring the power of trees to families and households across Los Angeles, adding greenery to public spaces and bringing cooler temperatures to its neighborhoods.
Australia
More than 100 Australian councils are using EIE transportation data through the Ironbark Sustainability and Beyond Zero Emissions' Snapshot, a tool which calculates major sources of carbon emissions, transport, waste, agriculture, and land-use change.
Houston, Texas
Houston used EIE solar data for a city-wide solar technical assessment to design a proposed 5M MwH target plan as part of its climate action plan—improving access to energy sources, reducing costs for residents, and creating jobs.
Hartford, Connecticut
Hartford recently updated its GHG emissions inventory with EIE data to establish the city’s climate action plan, in partnership with local volunteers and city staff. Local volunteers are also helping to calculate the city's baseline emissions.
Mexico City, Mexico
Iniciativa Climática de México is working with city officials to evaluate Mexico City’s building emissions and the potential to generate 4MW of renewable energy from rooftop solar, using data from EIE, and support from Google.org and ICLEI.
Copenhagen, Denmark
EIE's air quality insights show the block-by-block concentration of black carbon and ultrafine particle pollution, which the City of Copenhagen is using to prioritize actions to secure a clean and healthy future for its citizens.
